This is a red shibori haori. It’s slightly small, but since haori are originally designed to be worn over kimono, they are made to be loose-fitting. There are some age-related stains on the inside, specifically around the back area (as shown in the photo). However, there are no visible stains or marks on the outer fabric.

The type of flower depicted is not entirely clear, but I believe it is sakura (cherry blossom). In addition, bamboo leaves and flowing water patterns are featured. Together, the sakura and flowing water form a traditional motif known as "Sakuragawa" (Cherry Blossom River). In Japan, sakura typically reach full bloom between late March and early April, marking the arrival of spring. Since the Japanese fiscal and academic year begins in April, sakura are often associated with themes of encounters, farewells, new challenges, and fresh starts.

The image of cherry blossom petals fluttering and drifting downriver after their peak bloom is a poetic representation of Japan’s springtime and has become a beloved seasonal scene. This fleeting and delicate beauty, though captivating, also evokes a poignant sense of transience, a metaphor often reflected in Japanese culture and art.

All the kimonos I handle are pre-owned. While the condition of items on the market varies, I carefully select only from stores where I personally inspect and touch each piece to ensure they are in good condition, with beautiful patterns and colors, and made of quality fabric.

After purchase, I sometimes discover minor stains, spots or scratches, but if the item is still perfectly wearable, these details are clearly noted in the description. Stains and spots may be due to age or wear, which is also documented. Please feel free to message me with any questions, or if you have specific requests for what you're looking for.
